AHK Air Hong Kong Limited (香港 华 民 航空) is a Chinese cargo airline from Hong Kong. The airline has specialized in the transport of regional overnight mail and express packages. It is transported exclusively by and for freight DHL.

History

The airline was founded in 1986 and became operational two years later in February 1988. The first machine in the fleet, a Boeing 707, the first scheduled flights were flown in 1989. Then, two Boeing 747- 100F and two Boeing 747- 200F came to the fleet, which have been used until 2004. In June 1994, Cathay Pacific has acquired a 75 percent stake in the company, followed by the remaining 25 % in February 2002. In October of the same year, Cathay Pacific has decided (in cooperation with DHL) that Air Hong Kong an express freight network served in Asia. For this reason, DHL acquired a share of 30 % (later 40 %) of the airline. It was decided to equip the fleet exclusively with Airbus A300- 600GF. Thus, Air Hong Kong was the launch customer for this aircraft type. The eighth and so far last aircraft ( Registration: B- LDH) came on 28 June 2006 to the fleet. This aircraft is equipped with a loading system, which can be used with pallets of containers and all common types. Moreover, a cargo hatch is installed to the lower part of the hold at the end of the aircraft. In this cargo space large and bulky cargoes can be loaded into the aircraft. The aircraft is equipped with turbines of the CF6 - 80C2 General Electric. At the same time Air Hong Kong has decided the Maintenance Cost Per Hour ( MCPH ) program to join this company. The current ownership structure is as follows:

  • 60% of Cathay Pacific
  • 40 % DHL
