Bonriki airport

Air Kiribati is the national airline of Kiribati. Its main function is the transport of passengers between the islands of the archipelago of the Gilbert Islands. It also runs charter flights, medical transport and rescue missions. The headquarters of the company is the international airport Bonriki on the Tarawa Atoll. The airline IATA code is 4A.

History

The airline was on 1 April 1995 following the collapse of the previous national airline Air Tungaru (founded on October 31, 1977) founded. In March 2004, the Company closed its international traffic. The company is owned 100 % by the nation of Kiribati.

Destinations

Air Kiribati since 2004 flies only domestic destinations and connects the Gilbert Islands, with the exception of Banaba with each other. In addition, the line - Islands and Phoenix Islands are outside the direct reach. By 2004, Aloha Airlines Association on behalf of Air Kiribati Honolulu to Kiritimati. But due to difficulties in Aloha Airlines, there is this connection, since April 2004 no more. Fleet

As of June 2013 the fleet of Air Kiribati consists of three planes:

  • 2 CASA C212 -200
  • 1 Harbin Y -12 II

A de Havilland Canada DHC -6 has been ordered and will be delivered in 2013.

Former machines

From April 2005 to September of the same year, the fleet included also an ATR 72-500, which was used to connect to the remote Line and Phoenix islands and in neighboring countries. The machine was transferred back to France and the high cost even led to a replacement of the President of Kiribati.
