Air Via is a Bulgarian charter airline based in Sofia.

History

Air Via was founded on 13 June 1990 as the first private airline of Bulgaria and since then provides flight services for several European tour operators. These were first performed with the Tupolev Tu- 154M, which were sold in 2005 to the Russian UTair and replaced by Airbus A320 -200.

Objectives

In recent years, Air Via focuses its activities on the German market. She flies from their bases in Sofia and Varna and Burgas from predominantly targets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and connects them with European and especially Bulgarian destinations. Other destinations are from Bulgaria, for example, Tel Aviv and London.

From April 2010, Air Via stationed on behalf of Thomas Cook and TUI first time each aircraft at the airports Nuremberg and Paderborn / Lippstadt to from there next to Burgas and Varna to use also other destinations such as Fuerteventura, Monastir and Palma. Already in the 2009 season charter flights on behalf of Air Berlin were carried out from Dusseldorf.

Incidents

  • A forthcoming from Leipzig machine with the registration LZ- MDR rolled over in strong wind gusts on 24 May 2013, the runway at the Varna airport and stayed in a nearby field are, in the subsequent evacuation of passengers suffered two broken bones.
