Airboat

An airboat is a propeller-driven watercraft in order to inland waters, mainly in swamps and shallow waters, move around by sliding.

Although the airboat is primarily a watercraft, to a certain extent, it can also be used on land ( if a little water is at the surface, snow, ice), insofar as it is in the broad sense to an amphibious vehicle, however. Swamp boats are designed from the ground to the scows.

The propulsion is effected by one or more rear -mounted oversized air propellers which are driven by an internal combustion engine. Steering with the spoilers ( air flow deflection), which act directly behind the propellers. The helm seat is typically mounted high so that the view of the vegetation ( reed) is away possible. The design ranges from one-person small boat up to 18 - seater wide boats.

Swamp boats are used in tourism, the military (mostly marines and ground forces ), to leisure and explorations in wetlands. Primary purpose is the transportation of persons; partly payloads can be carried. The car is very agile and noisy; the latter is the main point of criticism in terms of nature (animals).

Similarly constructed is the hydrocopter who can drive through its skids on ice.

Alternatives

The advancement in swamps is otherwise motorized only to a limited extent:

  • Over free of cleared waterways
  • To stick dams, stick ways, causeways, elevated paths
  • On stilts or with the tide flooded rails, high cable cars
  • With air cushion vehicles
  • Amphibious vehicles
  • Possibly with extremely flat-bottomed boats
  • Course with flying machines, as far as possible to land is available

And also slower on foot, with marsh glides or with a small boat.
