Name

It is often wrongly assumed that the origin of the name Aisch of fish means in its original connotation. The actual etymology of the name as the Clear is obtained by the comparison with Lithuanian áiškus for clear.

Geography

The Aisch rises about one and a quarter miles south of the town center of Schwebheim (municipality Burgbernheim ) and about five kilometers southwest of Bad Windsheim. Like most of the western tributaries of the Aisch Regnitz has a low gradient and low runoff and sand structures near the shore and in the river bed. In the upper reaches it is very flat and where it reaches a depth of only 1.5 m. It was only in the lower range is up to 6 m deep and reaches a width of up to 15 m.

The Aisch has continuously to the water quality class II -III.

Cultural

The places Hoechstadt, Aisch, Adeldorf, Uttstadt, running and Weppersdorf on the lower reaches belonged to the local government reform in Bavaria Upper Franconia and then came to Middle Franconia. The set Aischtalbahn, coming from the formerly ansbachisch - evangelical Neustadt / Aisch, ended last major evangelical place, the Aischgrundbahn, coming from the bambergisch Catholic Forchheim, in the Catholic Hoechstadt. In the local dialect elderly residents of Hoechstadt speak at a trip to Lonnerstadt from driving "on Luth 's Passion ".
