Ait-Awari tribe

The Ait - Awari are a Tuareg tribe. They come probably from the northern ethnic groups of the Berbers of North Africa, who migrated centuries ago to the south. The language of Ait - Awari is called "Tin Sert " or " Tetserret " which provides inferences that they may originate from the Gulf of Sirte in Libya.

The Ait - Awari community is estimated to be a population of a few thousand; mainly living in the rural community Akoubounou in the department Abalak ( Tahoua region ) in Niger. Akoubounou located in the northern Sahel. The municipality is divided into 17 administrative villages, 18 traditional villages, nine villages and three camps.

The main town of the country church is the administrative village Akoubounou. At the 2001 census Akoubounou had 10,348 inhabitants. For the year 2010 13.912 inhabitants were calculated.
