Aitvaras

The Aitvaras ( lit. aitvaras ) is a figure from the Baltic mythology and legends.

The Aitvaras moves flying and he is mostly fiery but can change its appearance. He brings grain and other wealth he steals but sometimes the neighbors. Will he verzürnt, he burns the house down. The first mention of the essence in 1547 by Martynas Mažvydas. From later sources he is also compared with the incubus. In some aspects, there is similarity to Alb. Otherwise, it is compared with the snake or more commonly with the dragon - the children's toy "dragon " is accordingly aitvaras in Lithuanian.

The Aitvaras is hatched from the egg of a cock or seven years from the testis of a black stallion or lured by feeding with egg dish. The name has been variously explained, but no explanation is generally accepted.
