The Akaflieg München Mü 15 was a glider student Fliegergruppe Akaflieg Munich.

History

At the same time the draft Mü 17 for the competition for an Olympic unit glider pilot students Akaflieg Munich working on improving the Mü 10 "Milan". The prototype was flown in 1940 in Ainring near Salzburg and completed until the fall of 1941 45 flight hours than going to a flight broke the rudder and the Mü 15 was slightly damaged during the subsequent forced landing. Due to the war situation, the Mü 15 was not repaired again and did not survive the Second World War.

Construction

The high-wing, like all pilots of the Akaflieg Münchnen constructed at this time in the construction of the Munich school. This means that it has a fabric -covered steel tube fuselage and wooden wings. The seating position of the co-pilot is like the Mü 10 "Milan" and the motor glider Mü 23 " dinosaur " under the wing. As with the Mü 17 automatic flight controls were also used in this design, which facilitated the assembly and handling. It also has a retractable landing gear.

A special feature of the mu 15 is that the aileron deflections are almost ineffective. So had curves with the big pendulum rudder to be flown over the triggered thereby sliding rolling moment.

Variants

By Mü 20 an improved version of the mu should be built 15. This project came but not beyond the design phase.
