Akaflieg München Mü26

The Akaflieg München Mü 26 is a glider student Fliegergruppe Akaflieg Munich in composite construction with V-tail.

History

The Mü 26 was originally to be developed under the name mu 22d as a variant of the mu 22. However flowed over time so many changes, that it was decided to continue the aircraft as an independent project. The prototype was able to successfully complete in July 1971 at the airfield Oberpfaffenhofen its first flight. In 1984 the aircraft was destroyed in an accident and rebuilt after years of work again.

Construction

The characteristic V-tail suggests a purely external to a close relationship with the mu 22. However, it was omitted from the hull to a construction with tubular steel strung and full set of glass-fiber reinforced plastic. Furthermore, an attempt was made to hold by a " zigarrrenförmigen " fuselage cross-sectional area and thus the resistance as small as possible. This has the consequence that the pilot is in the Mü 26 in an extremely horizontal lying position.

In the wings was, although fiber composites at this time were also already on the rise, set as with the Mü 22 on a classic wooden structure. However, a very high surface quality is achieved through an even closer rib spacing and Vollbeplankung, which is quite comparable to that of modern fiber composite surfaces.

Use

The Mü 26 is currently flown by the Akaflieg Munich on gliding center king village. Also, competition participation are still possible with the aircraft.
