Aki Aleong
Aki Aleong (born 19 December 1934 in Port of Spain, Trinidad ) is an American actor, singer and music producer.
Stage
The son of a chef from Hong Kong grew up in Trinidad. In 1949 he moved with his mother to New York, where he began in 1951 with a drama school. In 1954 he got his first role on Broadway - as goat boy in Vern Sneiders The small teahouse.
Film and Television
1956 Aleong was in an episode of Producers' Showcase his television debut a year later as a cook in the drama Motorcycle Gang made his feature film debut. Since then he has starred in over 200 film and television productions. Music
In addition Aleong was also successful as a musician. He wrote songs like Tradewinds and Shombalor and acted from 1963 to 1967 as the frontman of the group Aki Aleong and the Nobles. As the first U.S. Asian Americans Aleong reached a spot in the U.S. Top 100 charts with a self- written and produced song.
In 1968 he retired from first stage, film and television and worked instead as a promotion manager and producer in the music business, including for The 5th Dimension and Bobby Womack.
Others
It was not until 1983 Aleong turned back to acting. In addition, he serves as Executive Director of AIM ( Asians in Media ) as President of the MANAA (Media Action Network for Asian Americans ) for the equality of Asian filmmakers.
In addition Aleong leads for over forty years, the Gingham Dog Fast Food Restaurant in Hollywood.
