AkmenÄ—

Akmenė (of lit. Akmuo, "stone" ) is a city in the Rajongemeinde Akmenė, 12 km south-west of Naujoji Akmenė, on the right bank of Dabikinė. There is a Catholic St. Anne's Church ( built in 1912 ), a Lithuanian Independence Monument ( built 1928), the gymnasium Akmenė, a library, a nursery school and a post office.

History

Estate Akmenė heard the nobles Kęsgailos and was mentioned in 1511. Žygimantas Senasis allowed in 1531 to build a town. 1561 there was a place, 3 blocks, 82 plots, 28 bars and a wooden church. The town charter was granted in 1592. 1941, the first collective farm was established in Lithuania.

Until the 17th century the town Dabikinė said.
