Akrahreppur is an Icelandic community in the region Norðurland vestra in northern Iceland.

On 1 January 2009 the municipality had 218 inhabitants. The main industry is agriculture. In this community there are no towns.

Geography

The community is located east of the river Héraðsvötn. The municipal area extends in a north-south direction from the area east of Varmahlíð with the Blönduhlíðarfjöll to Hofsjökull, which partly belongs to the municipality. In the north- east of the district is the Öxnadalsheiði.

History

The municipality was formerly the name Blönduhlíðarhreppur.

Traffic

The Hringvegur crosses Akrahreppur to nearly 40 km through the Norðurárdalur and the Öxnadalsheiði.
