al-Basasiri

Al- Basasiri († October 18, 1060 probably in Baghdad ) was a Turkish general of the Abbasids in the 11th century.

Abu al - Harith al - Arslan Basasiri was the leader of the Turkish troops under Caliph al- Qaim ( 1031-1075 ). Through his successful battles against the Uqailiden in northern Iraq ( 1048) and against individual Seldschukengruppen he soon rose to become the most important factor of power in Iraq. However, it came to the 1054 conflict with al - Qaim when he intervened in the regulations concerning subjugated Bedouin tribes. When al - al - Qaim Basasiri now accused of trying to shake off the supremacy of the Buyids, he was accused and deposed contacts to the Fatimids in Egypt.

After the Seljuk Turks had occupied Baghdad in 1055 and the fief ( IQTA ) moved in the buyidischen troops, the affected troops to al - Basasiri ran over, who had retreated to the middle Euphrates. When he received financial support from the Fatimids, he attacked as their vassal to the Seljuks in 1057, but had to after the occupation of Mosul retreat.

With the outbreak of infighting between the Seljuk Toghril Beg and his brother Ibrahim Inal ( 1058 ) al - Basasiri could re- engage in Iraq and occupy Baghdad in January 1059. Caliph al- Qaim was interned outside of Baghdad and sent the throne insignia of the Abbasids to the Fatimids in Cairo. At the same time, there were serious riots of the Shiites at the Sunnis in Baghdad.

As Toghril Beg with his brother marched into Iraq after the end of the debate again, prevented al - Basasiri by unacceptable demands an amicable settlement with the Seljuks and left with his troops Baghdad. The Seljuks now occupied Baghdad and translated al - Qaim again as caliph. On October 18, 1060 they were able to surprise troops al - Basasiris and kill them.
