Alain Dorémieux

Alain Dorémieux ( born August 15, 1933, Paris, † July 26, 1998 ) was a French editor, translator and author of science fiction literature.

Life

He attended a Catholic school and passed the High School, but interrupted his studies at the Sorbonne after two semesters. 1953, the publishing house Editions Opta decided to bring out a French-language version of the successful American SF magazine Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction. Dorémieux already worked on the first issue of the new magazine fiction as an editor and translator. In the sixth edition there appeared his first SF- text Le Chemin sur la route. He only became editorial secretary and editor of the journal in 1958. 1961-1967, he was also editor of Alfred Hitchcock magazine. He later discovered some well-known authors of French SF, as Jean- Pierre Andrevon, Philippe Curval and Christine Renard. As a longtime editor of the leading French science fiction magazine he had considerable influence on the development of the genre in France.

Alain Dorémieux transferred as a translator works of AE van Vogt, among other things, Ray Bradbury, Theodore Sturgeon, and Philip K. Dick into French. His literary work consists of about fifty short stories, novellas and short stories, as well as a single, published shortly before his death novel (Black Velvet).

He used a variety of pseudonyms:

• Luke Vigan (for his collaboration with Gerard Klein and Andre Ruellan )
• Monique Dorian (when written together with his wife Monique texts)
• The anagrams Meauroix Daniel and Alex Dieumorain ( in its translations)
• Serge -André Bertrand ( in essays and reviews )

Since 2000, named after him award for best debut release of a new SF author is awarded.
