Alan Bennett

Alan Bennett ( born May 9, 1934 in Leeds ) is an English writer, playwright, director and actor.

Life

Alan Bennett, son of a butcher could study through a scholarship at Exeter College history. He was a junior professor at Magdalen College, Oxford ( 1960-62 ). The success of the satirical revue Beyond the Fringe, for which he was active as a writer and actor, allowed him to move to the theater.

In his first drama, Forty Years On (1968), under which students can perform action a historic theater piece, Bennett takes the young British history, especially the Bloomsbury Group and TE Lawrence on the grain. With Kafka 's Dick ( 1986) he deals with Franz Kafka, in 102 Boulevard Haussmann ( 1990) with Marcel Proust, and in Prick Up Your Ears (1987 ) by Joe Orton. Bennett's work in television are distinguished by precise observation of human weaknesses.

His The Madness of George III (1991 ) was founded in 1995 as King George - filmed A Madness of. Bennett published with Untold Stories 2005 his memoirs after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Bennett lives with his life partner Rupert Thomas in London.
