Alan Wood, Jr.

Alan Wood Jr. ( born July 6, 1834 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † October 31, 1902 ) was an American politician. Between 1875 and 1877 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Alan Wood was the nephew of Congressman John Wood ( 1816-1898 ). He attended private schools and then worked in the iron works of his father, near Wilmington, Delaware. In 1857 he moved to Conshohocken in Pennsylvania, where he was also engaged in the iron industry. He also became involved in the banking industry. Politically, he joined the Republican Party, founded in 1854.

In the congressional elections of 1876 Wood was in the seventh election district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Washington Townsend on March 4, 1877. Since he resigned in 1878 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1879. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Wood resumed his previous activities on again. In addition, he worked also in agriculture. Finally, he was president of his company Alan Wood Iron & Steel Co. He died on 31 October 1902 in Philadelphia.
