Alaska Day

The Alaska Day is a public holiday in Alaska. It is celebrated on 18 October, the anniversary of the formal transfer of the Russian possessions in Alaska to the United States.

The official celebration of the Alaska Day is annually held in Sitka, where the handover was conducted in 1867 as part of a flag ceremony and a parade of troops. The contract for the purchase of Alaska from Russia had already taken place in March 1867 and is celebrated on Seward 's Day, however, the representatives of the United States and Russia were found only on 18 October for the official handover in Fort Sitka one.
