Alaska House of Representatives

The House of Representatives from Alaska (Alaska House of Representatives ) is the lower house of the Alaska Legislature, the legislature of the U.S. state of Alaska.

The chamber of parliament is made up of 40 members, representing an electoral district respectively. Each of these units includes a fixed average rate of 15,673 inhabitants ( 2000). Deputies are elected for two -year terms; limiting the terms of office does not exist. With its 40 Member's Alaska House of the smallest chamber of parliament in the United States.

The conference hall of the House of Representatives is located together with the State Senate in Alaska State Capitol in the capital city Juneau.

Structure of the chamber

Speaker of the House is the Speaker of the House. He is initially elected by the majority faction of the chamber before the confirmation by the whole Parliament follows. The Speaker is also responsible for the course of legislation and monitors the shutdowns in the various committees. Current Speaker since January 2009, the Republican Mike Chenault of Nikiski.

Other important office holders are the Majority Leader ( Majority Leader ) and the leader of the opposition (minority leader), who are elected by the respective fractions. Majority Leader is Republican Alan Austerman from Kodiak, Minority Leader Democrat Beth Kerttula from Juneau.
