Albanians in Ukraine

The Albanians in Ukraine are an ethnic minority, who settled mainly in the Zaporizhia Oblast and in Budschak. They are mainly descendants of Albanian insurgents who had fought in the Russo -Turkish wars against the Ottomans and which was granted the settlement in the 18th century in the Russian Empire. These Albanians came not from Albania, but from Bulgaria.

Today there are in the south of Ukraine four Albanian villages: Zhovtnevoje (formerly Karakurt, founded in 1811 as first Albanian settlement ) in the Odessa Oblast and Gamovka (formerly Xhandran ) Devninskoe (formerly Taz ) and Georgievka (formerly Tyshki ) in the Zaporizhia Oblast.
