Albert Grisar

Albert Grisar ( born December 26, 1808 in Antwerp, † June 15, 1869 in Asnières -sur -Seine, France) was a Belgian composer.

Life and work

Grisar was trained in Antwerp and Paris and was formed after the first successes of his works to the stage from Brussels and Paris by Saverio Mercadante in Naples on. In Naples he also examined on behalf of the Belgian government Belgian music in Italian church archives. After his Naples residence he settled in Paris.

Girsar was primarily known for his one - and mehraktigen comic operas, the mid-19th century were performed at the Opéra -Comique with success. His one-act play Bonsoir, monsieur Pantalon ( Good evening, Mr. Pantalon ) and Le chien du jardinier ( The dog of the gardener ) were replayed throughout Europe. The four-act opera Les Amours du diable (1853 ) was an international success. In addition to his stage works he published about 50 songs, which he described as " romances ".

Grisars works will be performed today extremely rare.
