Behind the facade of the introverted, hard-working and thrifty man is in reality a woman who sees the role change their only chance to survive without family and husband. When she has to share her bed for a night with the painter Hubert Page, she imagines her masquerade in danger until it turns out that Page is also a woman. Albert's wooing of Helen Dawes, with whom he open his own business and want to be married, is complicated by the arrival of Joe who wants to emigrate to America with Helen.

Reviews

" Stylish staged historical drama that explores the gender issues from different perspectives and its protagonist zubilligt an ambivalent attitude. "

" " Albert Nobbs " is when you just look at the name of a movie from a good family. István Szabó, the original should also be directing, wrote the story, the Irish author John Banville co-authored with Glenn Close the script. And Rodrigo García is the son of Gabriel García Márquez. If the big screen would be a question of descent, a masterpiece here would have to be created. So you can take comfort in the prospect that Glenn Close now has her dream role behind him, like Nicole Kidman with a false nose in " The Hours ". The game goes on. "

The film was nominated for the Academy Awards 2012 in three categories:
