Albert Von Tilzer

Albert Von Tilzer ( born March 29, 1878 in Indianapolis, Indiana, † October 1, 1956 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American music producer.

He was born Albert Gumm or Albert Gummblinsky, but took as his four brothers, Harry, Jack, Julie and Will, his mother, Tilzer, the maiden name and evaluated it with a " from " ( which he obviously wrote large) on. The Tilzer brothers all landed in the music business of Tin Pan Alley.

Albert grew up in Indianapolis and went to high school early to participate in the shoe shop of his father. His older brother Harry worked at that time already in the music business, and Albert was - by whom is unknown - some music lessons. More or less self-taught, he learned then playing the piano and brought it to the music director of a vaudeville troupe.

In 1900 he moved to New York in 1902 he succeeded with Tell Me That Beautiful Story, written in conjunction with Arthur J. Lamb, the first publication that gained greater prominence. One year later, That's What the Daisy Said came out, a song that was very popular, and Albert founded together with his brother Jack, the York Music Company. They released eg Teasing, Lonesome, The Moon Has Eyes on You and A Picnic For Two. In collaboration with Jack Norworth resulted in several successful productions. Is best known for Take Me Out to the Ball Game from 1908, which is sung to this day at baseball games. In the following years he worked a lot with Lew Brown; a well-known result was about Here Comes the Bride. 1915 changed from Tilzer the name of his company in Broadway Music Corporation. One of the first publications under the new name was My Little Girl. During the First World War propaganda songs like I May Be Gone for a Long, Long Time emerged in the years that followed, matching the time of Prohibition, the topic of alcohol was taken up, for example in The Alcoholic Blues.

In the twenties, worked from Tilzer reinforced for Broadway: Honey Girl, The Gingham Girl, Adrienne, Three Doors and Burlesque date from this period.

After the musical tastes had changed and the sound film had spread found, pulled from Tilzer to California. In 1933, the film Rainbow Over Broadway 1935 Here Comes the Band came out; after Albert moved from Tilzer more or less back into private life. When his last song is true I'm Praying to Saint Christopher ( 1950 ).
