Work

In the field of tension between tradition and modernity

In the 1920s, there was a creative rivalry between the traditional affine Offenbacher school to Rudolf Koch, Hugo Eberhardt and Dominic Böhm, as well as the modern avant-garde project New Frankfurt Ernst May that of the Frankfurt schools ( School of Applied Arts and Staedelschule ) was supported.

Windisch was probably the only protagonist who acted for a long time in these two action spaces, he worked as a teacher with Fritz Wichert on a reform and merger of the two schools in Frankfurt and was as in the 1920s and 1930s as a graphic along with the siblings Hans Leistikov and Grete Leistikov active. More often, however, it is the Offenbach district zugerechnet.vermutlich because of his friendship for two years older Rudolf Koch and his bibliophile circles. For this environment (which is preferred Fraktur ) also came criticism for its font Windisch italics: " The drawn from the Frankfurt graphic artist Albert Windisch» Windisch- Italic "is one of the writing tool ... if the extremely expressionist drawings the closed vignette character can miss "

As a painter Windisch preferred urban scenes and landscapes, as well as after 1945, mainly floral motifs. His artistic work carries expressionist traits but also attacked the painting of the late 19th century and the art-historical tradition.
