Alberta Adams

Alberta Adams ( born July 26, 1917in Indianapolis, Indiana) is an American blues singer, which is connected to the Detroit blues, jump blues and Chicago blues. Sometimes it is also referred to as the " Grand Dame of Detroit Blues".

Life

Alberta Adams was born as Roberta Louise Osborn and grew up with an aunt in Detroit, Michigan. It began in the late 1930s as a dancer in the club scene of Hastings Street in Detroit. There she soon began to sing and the owner of the club in which they occurred encouraged them to expand their repertoire and to sing along. At Club B & C, she performed with such later greats like John Lee Hooker, Big Maceo, Eddie Burns and Eddie Kirkland. Adams called Big Joe Turner, Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughan and LaVern Baker as its first musical influences, but it has taught himself most of yourself.

In B & C they also heard the Chess brothers and gave her a contract with Chess Records in 1952, where she recorded with Red Saunders.
