Alberto Castillo (performer)

Alberto Castillo ( born December 7, 1914 in Buenos Aires, Argentina; † July 23, 2002 ibid ) is a tango singer and actor.

Life

Alberto Castillo was born as Alberto Salvador De Luca in Mataderos neighborhood in Buenos Aires. His parents were Italian immigrants Salvador De Luca and Lucia Di Paola. He made ​​his debut as a singer in the 1930s, from 1941 he also took on record. Shortly after, he had a hit with his rendition of Alfredo Pelalas song " Recuerdo ".

With his sense of rhythm and his tendency to become hoarse, Castillo became the most important interpreters of Afro- Argentine Candombe and Milonga genre.

One of his most successful recordings was " Cien barrios porteños " ( 100 barrios of Buenos Aires ), which meant that presenters announced him as " singer of the 100 barrios'.

From 1946 Castillo also appeared in a number of Argentine films.

Castillo was also a trained physician. This fact convinced the parents of his fiancee to let her daughter marry Castillo ( to be only a " tango singer " would not have been enough). In the movie " Luna de Avellaneda " alluded to his training, as Castillo after a performance jump in at the carnival as an obstetrician.

One of his last recordings was a cover version of his Candombe hit " Siga el Baile " together with the Argentine band Los Auténticos Decadentes. Castillo is buried in the Cemetery Chacarita.
