Alberto de Agostini National Park

Alberto de Agostini National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Alberto de Agostini ) is a large national park in southern Chile and is managed by the Chilean Corporación Nacional Forestal Forestry Authority ( CONAF ).

It is situated in the Región de Magallanes y Antártica Chilena de la of the country in the province of Chilean Antarctica and covers an area of ​​14,600 km ². It is named after the missionary and explorer Alberto Maria De Agostini.

The park, established in 1985 is located about 80 km south of Porvenir. Here lie the vast calving glacier De Agostini and Marinelli. The park covers virtually the entire southwest of Tierra del Fuego. It includes the whole Cordillera Darwin mountain range with its highest mountain Cerro Darwin ( 2,488 m).

The flora and fauna of the park is characterized by its subantarktisches climate. A total of 49 bird species were recorded, even if the jackal and the Argentine Andes Kamp fox roam the grounds. In its waters live among others white-bellied dolphin and Peale 's dolphin, sea lions and sea otters. On the coast, sea leopard, Mane Seal, and Southern elephant can be observed.

Together with the Cape Horn National Park is part of the National Park Alberto de Agostini since 2005 to the Cape Horn Biosphere Reserve.
