Description

Albizia species are deciduous trees and shrubs that grow most rapidly. Some species grow in stature as a Schirmakazie. They have thorny branches. The leaves are bipinnate. There are Stipules present.

Albizia species have autonomous leaf movements on the basis of turgor. It is circadian, also known as sleep movement in the colloquial language, movements of the leaflets. These fold in about 12 hours, the day - night rhythm and an appropriate distance in the evening, the individual leaflets together and open it again in the morning.

The flowers are borne in stalked little head or brush-shaped inflorescences. There are flower stems exist or they are missing. The flowers are hermaphrodite. The sepals are fused with a maximum short calyx lobes, which are usually only visible as calyx teeth. The petals are fused funnel-shaped to about their middle out. The white, pink to rare purple stamens are fused at least at their base; they often form a Staminalröhre. The anthers are small. The thin style ends in a capitate to tiny scar.

The legumes are thin, strap- shaped. The oval to circular seeds are compressed.

Use

They are used in frost- free areas as an ornamental and shade trees.
