Albrecht Böttcher

Albrecht Böttcher ( born December 29, 1954 in Upper Wiesenthal ) is a German mathematician who deals with functional analysis.

Hooper went as a student from 1971 to 1973 at an elite special class of the Technical University of Karl- Marx-Stadt and won on the Mathematical Olympiad in Moscow in 1973, a silver medal. After military service, he studied from 1975 to 1979 at the Technical University Karl- Marx-Stadt Bernd Silbermann. From 1980 he studied further at the University of Rostov-on- Don, where he 1984 V. Dybin via Wiener-Hopf integral operators a Ph.D. ( candidate items). From 1984 he was a research assistant in Karl- Marx-Stadt. In 1987 he qualified as a professor there, and was a lecturer in 1990 and 1992 Professor of Analysis in Chemnitz. He received the 1992 Alfried Krupp Award for young university teachers and won the 1997 together with Yuri Karlovich ( Karlovich ) the Ferran Sunyer -i - Balaguer - Prize of the Institut d' Estudis Catalans in Spain.

Böttcher dealt with operator algebras and especially with Toeplitz operators and Toeplitz matrices, about which he wrote a standard work with Silbermann.
