Album of the Year is the sixth and final studio album by Faith No More. It was released on 3 June 1997. Album of the Year is the only album with guitarist Jon Hudson.

Formation and style

Hudson replaced Dean Menta, who only played on the tour to King for a Day ... Fool for a Lifetime. The album was recorded in Billy Gould's own studio. It is somewhat smoother produced than the previous albums. Some pieces have hard rock and pop influences, synth sounds can be heard, while others harder and some also act as experimental. Naked in Front of the computer explores the possibilities of the time becoming more popular e- mail contacts, Pristina refers to the Yugoslav conflict of the 1990s and tells the story of two lovers who are separated by the war. After this album, the band broke up in April 1998.

Reception

The album was recorded mixed. So in the magazine Rock Hard by Marcus Schleutermann were awarded seven out of ten. He criticized it as " a calculated action, smug and boring rehash " of Angel Dust and missing risk-taking. However, Mike Patton's singing, he evaluated positively. Greg Prato of Allmusic evaluated, however, with four out of five stars. Strip Search, Last Cup of Sorrow and Ashes to Ashes are salient pieces with Collision contain about even heavy rock songs. The album was a worthy conclusion to the band's career.

The bonus Limited Edition of Album of the Year was released in Germany and the UK and includes remixes of some pieces, including Rammstein.
