Aleksander Zederbaum

Alexander cedar ( born August 27, 1816 in Zamość, † September 8, 1893 in St. Petersburg, he wrote under the name eres = cedar ) was a Hebrew and Yiddish writer, reconnaissance in Odessa (since 1840) and pioneer of Hebrew journalism.

He founded ha - Meliz ( The Good speaker / advocate ) in 1860 as a Hebrew weekly. It first appeared in Hebrew and German with Hebrew characters, since 1863 with a Yiddish supplement ( kol me'wasser = voice of the herald ). Since 1871, the paper was published after his transfer to St. Petersburg as a Hebrew newspaper. Here the Yiddish leaflet was not allowed and replaced by the russkich jewrejew Wjestnik. In 1881 he was able to reveal the Yiddish People's Daily.

With AJ Goldblum he gave the collection book Ecclesiastes out (1881 ). He was a participant of the Katowice conference (see at Max E. Mandelstam ).

In addition to his work as a journalist Alexander cedar tree was otherwise literary works.
