Aleksandr Arbuzov

Alexander Jerminingeldowitsch Arbuzov (Russian Александр Ерминингельдович Арбузов, scientific transliteration Aleksandr Arbuzov Erminingel'dovič; * 30 Augustjul / September 11 1877greg in Arbusow Baran, .. † January 21, 1968 in Kazan ) was a Soviet and Russian chemist.

Life

1896-1900 studied Arbuzov chemistry at Kazan University under Alexander Mikhailovich Zaitsev (1841-1910, discoverer of Saytzeff rule ) and was there until 1906, then worked as an assistant for organic chemistry. In 1905 he received his master's degree in Chemistry. At the Forestry and Agricultural Institute in Novo- Alexandria, he worked as a professor from 1906 to 1911. He returned to Kazan, where he chem 1914 Dr.. received his doctorate. 1911 to 1930 he was Professor of Organic Chemistry, 1929 to 1949 he was director of Butlerov Institute. Between 1930 and 1962 he was professor at Kazan with a Department of Chemical Technology, from 1945 he was director of the Arbuzov Institute. 1962 Arbuzov was professor emeritus at the University of Kazan.

Scientific Importance

Arbuzov is known for the eponymous Arbuzov reaction, even Michaelis -Arbuzov reaction, which he developed in 1906 and which plays an important role in organic chemistry. Arbuzov synthesized - partly with his son Boris Aleksandrovich - esters of phosphoric acid and thioester of phosphorous, phosphonous and phosphinous acid. He also synthesized compounds containing phosphorus -carbon bonds. These classes of compounds obtained wide practical application as insecticides. The production mesomeriestabilisierter radicals from triarylmethane also belonged to the research subject of the work of Arbuzov.

In addition to his scientific work Arbusow 1948 A Brief Sketch of the Development of Organic Chemistry in Russian ( 1948) wrote.

Awards

Arbuzov in 1943 and 1947 awarded the Stalin Prize. He also carried the title of Hero of Socialist Labor and received five Order of Lenin. Since 1947 he was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
