Aleksandr Miroshnichenko

Alexander Viktorovich Miroshnichenko (Russian Александр Викторович Мирошниченко; born April 26, 1964 in Qostanai, Kazakh SSR; † 19 May 2003 in Almaty ) was a Kazakh heavyweight boxer of Russian origin.

Amateur

Miroshnichenko won 210 of 233 amateur fights.

National

In 1983, Miroshnichenko first time to the Soviet championships, but already retired from the first knockout round. In 1984 he was third and 1985 and 1987 runner-up. In 1986 he became Soviet champion in the super heavyweight division, a title he could repeat in 1988 and 1989 for the first time.

Internationally

In 1983 he was at the European Championships in Varna third in the super heavyweight category, he won there in the quarterfinals against Olaf Mayer, before losing in the semifinals against Ulli Kaden. At the World Cup 1983 in Rome, he also finished third. The 1986 Goodwill Games in Moscow, he ended after a final defeat by Vyacheslav Yakovlev in second place.

In 1988 he took part in the Olympic Games in Seoul for the Soviet Union. He penetrated after beating Ali Al- Baluchi, Kuwait (5:0), and Yoo Hyun Kim, South Korea (5-0 ) in the semi-finals before, but it lost to the Americans Riddick Bowe despite two rainfall on points and won thus a bronze medal.

In 1989 he won at the European Championships in Athens another third place, which he won in the quarterfinals against Janusz Zarenkiewicz and lost in the semifinal against Ulli Kaden. When held in the same year World Cup in Moscow, he reached after wins over Andreas Schnieders and Ladislav Husarik, the Czech Republic, the final, in which he losing to the Cuban Roberto Balado.

Professional

In 1990, Miroshnichenko in the professional camp, had there but only comparatively little success. Although he won his first 21 fights, but fought mostly against inexperienced opponents. So denied nine of his opponents against him, her first professional fight. In October 1990, he defeated Ross Puritty. On April 17, 1993, he fought against Oleg Maskajew in his pro debut and lost by TKO in the third round. He then ended his career.

Alexander Miroshnichenko died on 19 May 2003 after a fall from a stairway in the former Kazakh capital Almaty.
