Aleksandre Lomaia

Aleksandre ( Kacha ) Lomaia (Georgian ალექსანდრე ( კახა ) ლომაია; born July 23, 1963 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian politician. The engineer was from February 2004 to November 2007 Minister for Education and Science. In the same month he was secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia.

Life

In 1985 he graduated from the Polytechnic Institute in Tbilisi studies as a hydraulic engineer with honors. He then worked at Tbilhidroproekti Institute in Tbilisi. In 1992, he completed a postgraduate course in Moscow as a civil engineer.

1991 Lomaia was sent by the Georgian president Zviad Gamsakhurdia as deputy representative of the newly independent country to Moscow; he moved there in the same year as acting agent.

In 1995 he was coordinator of the program for the public and media of the political foundation Eurasia Fund, which promotes democratic institutions and the private sector in the countries of the former Soviet Union. In 2000 he took over the management of the Foundation in Georgia. In 2002 he joined as Regional Director for the organization Democracy Coalition. In 2003 he became managing director of the George Soros Foundation Open Society Georgia, the mentally prepared the Rose Revolution.

On 17 February 2004, the Georgian parliament elected him Minister for Education and Science. On 19 November 2007 he was replaced by President Mikheil Saakashvili in office and appointed secretary of the National Security Council of Georgia. According to an analysis by the International Crisis Group (ICG ), he is one of the most influential people in the inner circle of the Georgian president.

Lomaia is married and has two children. He speaks English and Russian.
