Alen Bokšić

Alen Bokšić [ alɛn bɔkʃitɕ ] ( born January 21, 1970 in Makarska, SFR Yugoslavia, now Croatia ) is a former Croatian football player and currently vice president of Hajduk Split.

Career

Alen Bokšić was a trained striker began his career in 1987 at Hajduk Split. As early as 1990 he took the Yugoslav national team at the World Cup in Italy, but came to no use. After winning the Yugoslav Cup in 1991 Bokšić changed for one season for AS Cannes in France. In the following season he played at Olympique Marseille, where he was champion of France and Champions League winners. With 23 goals Bokšić was also top scorer in the French league.

After these successes Bokšić changed for the transfer fee of DM equivalent of about 15 million to Lazio in Italy. According to the European Football Championship in 1996, when he reached the quarter-finals with Croatia, he played for one season at Juventus. At Juve he won the Italian championship, was defeated in the Champions League final but Borussia Dortmund.

For the season 1997/98 he moved back to Lazio. With Lazio he was 1998 Cup Winners' Cup and won the following year as the last team to ever European Cup winner and the European Supercup. At the World Cup '98, when Croatia finished third, Bokšić was missing due to injury. In 2000, he won with the Romans did the league and cup double.

From Lazio out he moved in 2000 to England for Middlesbrough FC, where he ended his career in early 2003.

For the Croatian national football team Bokšić played 40 times and scored a total of ten goals.
