Aleris

Aleris International, Inc. is a global enterprise of aluminum production. It focuses primarily on the production of aluminum in extruded and rolled form as well as in the production of aluminum alloys. Aleris is since the bankruptcy and the subsequent restructuring of one of the largest private companies in the United States.

History

The company was founded in 2004 by the merger of Commonwealth Industries, Inc. and IMCO Recycling Inc.. During the following years Aleris was further enlarged and strategically took over in 2006, the aluminum division of the UK-based Corus Group. For a purchase price of 570 million pounds of the works were taken over for the production of rolled products and extruded products.

In December 2006, the American Texas Pacific Group Aleris acquired for around 1.7 billion U.S. dollars, including an advance payment for the repayment of debt in the amount of 1.6 billion U.S. dollars. In 2007, the zinc business of Aleris was sold to focus the company's activity in the production of aluminum.

On 12 February 2009, Aleris reported bankruptcy under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code with the aim to restructure the debt-ridden companies and privately continue. Mid-2010, could the insolvency proceedings are completed successfully.
