Alessandro Barsanti

Alessandro Barsanti ( born August 28, 1858 in Alexandria, † October 24, 1917 in Cairo ), also Alexandre Barsanti, was an Italian Egyptologist.

Life

Alessandro Barsanti came from a Tuscan family and graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts in Florence. After his return to Egypt, he was hired by Gaston Maspero as a restorer and artist for the Cairene Museum, since 1891, he bore the title of " Conservateur - restaurateur ".

In 1892 he worked with Jacques de Morgan in Upper Egypt, from 1894 to 1894 he assisted Georges Daressy in its work in the temple of Medinet Habu, from 1895 to 1896 he was involved in the rescue of Nubia threatened by the construction of the first Aswan Dam monuments. From 1899 to 1904 he worked at Saqqara. He dug among other things, from the unfinished pyramid of the Baka and the Chaba in Zaujet el- Arjan and the mortuary temple of Unas.
