Alev Korun

Alev Korun ( born September 27, 1969 in Ankara) is an Austrian politician (Greens). She was since November 18, 2005 Member of the Parliament and member of the Vienna City Council and since October 28, 2008 Member of the Austrian Parliament.

Education and work

Alev Korun attended elementary school and high school in Turkey and graduated in 1988 the Commercial Academy in the Austrian St. George's College in Istanbul from. She then studied Political Science and Gender Studies ( combination of subjects ) at the Universities of Innsbruck and Vienna.

Korun cooperated in anti-racism and integration initiatives in Tyrol and Vienna, and in 1993 was active in the Green Bildungswerkstatt Innsbruck. 1993 to 1999 she worked at the counseling center for migrants Vienna, where she took on the legal and social support for immigrants. 1998 to 1999 they also sat as a NGO representative in the Integration Advisory Board of the Ministry of Interior. In 1998, she founded the European Network Against Racism and was 1999-2005 Technical Officer for minorities, migration and human rights of the Greens parliamentary group.

Policy

Alev Korun was between 2001 and 2005 the Green district councilor in Vienna's Landstrasse. Until 2003, she also led the Green Club in the district as chairwoman. Korun had 2001 to 2005 held the position of a regional board member of the Viennese Greens 2002 to 2005 and was deputy national spokesperson for the Viennese countryside. In November 2005, she settled in as a deputy in the Vienna parliament and council.
