Alexander (1783 ship)

The Alexander was a British convict transporter of the First Fleet with 452 tons displacement. The ship was built in 1783 as Bark with Quarterdeck in Kingston upon Hull. She was the largest transport ship in the First Fleet.

Even before its expiry in England broke out on board the fever and 16 men died. On 13 May 1787 the ship left Portsmouth with 195 male convicts on board. Of these, 15 died on the trip. This was the highest number of casualties of the First Fleet, but well below the values ​​of the notorious Second Fleet. She reached Port Jackson in Sydney on 26 January 1788.

On 14 July of the following year she ran along with the Friendship again. After the crew of both ships was so badly affected by scurvy that only enough able-bodied men were on a ship available, took to the crew of the Friendship, which was sunk.
