Alexander Egorovich Varlamov

Alexander Jegorowitsch Varlamov (Russian Александр Егорович Варламов; * 15 Novemberjul / November 27 1801greg in Moscow, .. .. † 15 Oktoberjul / October 27 1848greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian composer.

The student Dmitri Bortnyansky was 1819-1823 choirmaster of the Russian embassy church in the Hague, then music teacher in Moscow. From 1829 to 1831 he worked as a singing teacher of Hofsängergesellschaft in St. Petersburg. Until 1845 he was again a music teacher in Moscow, then in St. Petersburg.

He composed two ballets, choral works, incidental music and numerous songs, including the popular Krasny Sarafan. He also published a widely used textbook for vocals.
