Alexander Frederick, Landgrave of Hesse

Alexander Friedrich Wilhelm Albrecht Georg von Hessen ( born January 25, 1863 in Copenhagen, † March 25, 1945 in Fronhausen (Lahn ) ), Alexander Frederick, Landgrave of Hesse ( -Kassel), Hesse -Kassel from the line - Rumpenheim of the House of Hesse was titular Landgrave of Hesse -Kassel and composer.

Life

He was the second son of Friedrich Wilhelm Georg Adolf von Hessen- Kassel- Rumpenheim (1820-1884) and his second wife Anna Maria Friederike of Prussia ( 1836-1918 ). He received part of his schooling in an English boarding school, St. Joseph 's College, Upper Norwood ( London), studied humanities in Marburg and Leipzig and completed his studies with a doctorate. After his older brother Frederick William 's death in 1888 was the birth of severely visually impaired Alexander Friedrich and his unacceptable marriage in 1925 when he made waiver, head of the House of Hesse -Kassel. His brother Frederick Charles of Hesse succeeded him as head of the house. Alexander of Hesse- Kassel married on March 25, 1925 in Frankfurt Gisela Stock Horner of Starein (* January 17, 1884, † June 22, 1965 in Freiburg im Breisgau).

From Hesse -Kassel loved music and art and was a promoter of the music of the composers of the Romantic and Modern. His own musical work began very early. In Frankfurt, where mother and son lived in the winter months, they perverted with artists such as Joachim Raff, Clara and Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms or Engelbert Humperdinck, promoted the construction of the Opera House and took actively part in the music scene. While his wife was more associated traditional music care to Hesse -Kassel turned to the New German School and was looking to be close to Franz Liszt, Edvard Grieg and Richard Wagner. Alexander Frederick of Hesse, who had to write because of its strong visual impairment of his compositions in braille music notation, leaving behind a partially untapped musical work. Alexander Frederick of Hesse was the last family member as a resident of Castle Philippsruhe.

In Hanau- Kesselstadt the Alexander street is named after him.
