Alexander Ivanov-Kramskoi

Alexander Mikhailovich Ivanov - Kramskoi (Russian Александр Михайлович Иванов - Крамской; * 13 Augustjul / August 26 1912greg in Moscow, .. † 11 April 1973 in Minsk) was a Soviet guitarist, composer, conductor and music educator.

Life

Ivanov - Kramskoi first learned violin in Moscow. After attending a concert by Andrés Segovia at the Moscow Conservatory, he decided in 1926 for the guitar. He studied from 1931 to 1933 guitar with Pyotr Agafoschin ( student of Segovia), composition with Nikolai Retschmenski and conducting with Konstantin Saradschew at the Pedagogical University Moscow. Later advanced courses followed at Agafoschin at the conservatory.

He made his debut in 1932 in Moscow. He played several years in the ensemble with Ivan Kozlovsky, Alexandra Jablotschkina, Mstislav Rostropovich, Leonid Kogan and Nadezhda Obukhova. From 1932 he worked at the All-Union Radio and at the Maly Theater. In 1939, he won the second prize of the Union widths folk music competition. From 1939 to 1945 he was conductor of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the NKVD. From 1947 to 1952 he headed the Russian Folk Choir and Folk Instruments Orchestra of the State Committee for Radio and Television of the USSR. He composed and edited more than 500 works and took about 40 LPs (including 1950/51 with Leonid Kogan and Fyodor Lusanow pieces of Filippo Gragnani, Niccolò Paganini and Mauro Giuliani ).

In 1959 he was honored as an Honored Artist of the RSFSR. From 1960 to 1973 he taught at the Moscow Conservatory and was head of its class guitar. His students included his daughter Natalia Ivanova - Kramskaja and Komoljatow Nikolai, Felix Akopow and Alexander Frautschi.

He died in 1973 in Minsk and was buried on the Wwedenskoje Cemetery in Moscow.
