Alexander Numenius

Alexandros Numeniu (Greek Ἀλέξανδρος Νουμηνίου " Alexandros, son of Numenius ," latin Alexander Numenius ) was a Greek rhetorician, who was active in the first half of the 2nd century AD.

He was the son of the famous rhetorician Numenius, who lived under the Emperor Hadrian. As his father wrote Alexandros rhetorical textbooks and specialist journals. Under his name, a record of meaning and word characters ( περὶ τῶν τῆς διανοίας καὶ τῆς λέξεως σχημάτων ) is obtained, however, which is a shortened version ( Epitome ) of the original. From the rhetorical textbook of Alexandros ( τέχνη περὶ ἀφορμῶν ῥητορικῶν ) only a few excerpts have survived.

Alexandros ' rhetorical theory had far- reaching influence on the further development of rhetoric, which is particularly evident in the testimonies of anonymous Seguerianus.
