Alexander Ragulin

Alexander Pavlovich Ragulin (Russian Александр Павлович Рагулин; born May 5, 1941 in Moscow, Russian SFSR, † November 17, 2004 in Moscow, Russia) was a Soviet ice hockey player.

Career

Ragulin played as a defender in the Soviet Hockey League at Chimik Woskressensk (1957-1962) and at the CSKA Moscow ( 1962-1973 ). Between 1960 and 1973 he was in the squad of Soviet national ice hockey team. With it, he was the only hockey player in the world, ten -time world champion and three times (1964, 1968 and 1972 ) Olympic champion, with the 1964 and 1968 Olympic Winter Games and the Hockey World Cup coincided. In the 1966 World Cup Ragulin got the title of "Best Defender of the Tournament". In total he played 239 matches in the jersey of Sbornaja in which he scored 29 goals. From the International Ice Hockey Federation ( IIHF ) Ragulin was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1997. In Russia, he is an icon of ice hockey.

He was awarded the Medal of the Soviet Union in 1965 and 1969.
