Alexander (son of Lysimachus)

Alexander (Greek Ἀλέξανδρος, Aléxandros; † probably 277 BC or shortly thereafter) was a son of Lysimachus Diadochenherrschers. He had a half-brother of the same name, a son of Lysimachus and Amastris.

His mother was a odrysische woman who was a mistress of his father. When his half-brother Agathocles was 283/282 BC, executed by his father, Alexander fled with his sister Lysandra to the court of Seleucus, who killed in the subsequent battle of Kurupedion 281 BC Lysimachus. Alexander hid the body of his father and buried him in a place between Lysimachia and Paktye on the Thracian Chersonese.

In the turmoil of the Celtic Storm Alexander officiated probably in the year 277 BC briefly as regent of Macedonia, where he was identical with that mentioned in Diodorus person of the same name. He may be reached by Kurupedion in the wake of Ptolemy Keraunos to Macedonia.
