The sailing ship Alexander von Humboldt II is a steely German bark, which is used as a youth and a training ship as part of the Sail Training. It replaces the Alexander von Humboldt. It is to the first tall ship that was built in Germany since the construction of Barkentine Lili Marleen in 1994.

Description

The boat is rigged as a barque. It has a length of 65 meters, a width of 10 meters and has 24 sails with a total sail area of ​​1,360 square meters. Maximum 79 people aged 14 to 75 years old can sail on her with appropriate fitness. As a reminder of the previous ship and sailing ships of the Rickmers Reederei Bremerhavener the hull is painted green again; the original plans with a black hull ( in memory of the Flying P- Liner) were discarded after intensive discussions.

History

With the construction of the hull of the Alexander von Humboldt II fuel and Verformtechnik Bremen in 2010 the Company started. On 25 May 2011 the pile lift was performed. The final outfitting took place in the BAT subsidiary in Bremerhaven. On 24 September 2011, she was baptized by Brigitte Rönner in Bremerhaven.

Ship Operation

The operating concept of the new building remains unchanged from the Alexander von Humboldt. Divided into summer and winter trips to around 340 days a year the foundation's purpose, namely, to teach traditional seamanship, are met in sailing areas such as North and Baltic Sea, but also in the Atlantic Ocean or the Caribbean. The remaining days are to be used for necessary maintenance in a shipyard in Bremerhaven as well as the equipment of the vessel.
