Alexios Strategopoulos

Alexios Melissenos Strategopulos was a Byzantine general of the 13th century.

He proposed in October 1259 Michael II Angelos of Epirus in the plane of Pelagonia, then conquered Arta and Ioannina, but was defeated and taken prisoner at Trikoryphos. Soon released, Strategopulos was entrusted with the supreme command in Thrace. He rumbled in the night of July 25, 1261 Konstantin Opel ( Opel → reconquest of Constantinople in 1261 ), which he put an end to the reign of the Latins and the collection of Michael VIII (August 15 ) allowed. After the capture of Constantinople Strategopulos fought against the despot of Epirus, fell into captivity, but was replaced soon.
