Alferius

Alferio Pappacarbone (* in the 10th century in Salerno, † April 12, 1050 in the Abbey of Cava ) is considered the founder of the Benedictine Abbey of Cava de ' Tirreni. He is venerated as a saint in the Catholic Church. His worship was on 21 December 1893 by Pope Leo XIII. confirmed. His feast day in the liturgy is the 12th of April. He is depicted as an old man with a shepherd's staff (symbolizing the abbatial office ) and a model of the abbey on the left arm.
