Alfonso Pérez

Alfonso Pérez Muñoz, called Alfonso ( born September 27, 1972 in Getafe ) is a former Spanish footballer. The striker was active in his career for both Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Life

Alfonso was born in Getafe, a suburb of Madrid. Early in his career he played for Real Madrid, where he replaced the legendary Emilio Butragueño as choice strikers. In 1992 he was part of the Spanish Olympic team that Barcelona won the gold medal at the Summer Olympics. At Real Madrid Alfonso succeeded nevertheless not the right breakthrough, which is why he moved to Real Betis in 1995.

In 1997, he was charged with 25 hits second best scorer of the Spanish Primera División behind Ronaldo. In 1998 he was elected to Spain's footballer of the year. At this time he was regarded as one of Europe's best strikers. But he was thrown back in subsequent seasons by many injury breaks.

Alfonso played 38 games for the Spanish national football team, scoring 11 goals.
