Alfred Francis Russell

Alfred Francis Russell ( born August 25, 1817 in Kentucky, † April 4, 1884 in Liberia) was the tenth President of Liberia.

Russell emigrated in 1833 with his mother and four siblings in Liberia one. He was first Methodist missionary and later owned a large coffee and sugar cane plantation. Since 1881, he worked as vice president under Anthony William Gardiner, the official duties of the previously diseased President took over on January 20, 1883, was the reigning incumbent to the elections in 1884.
