Alfred Grünfeld

Alfred Grünfeld ( born July 4, 1852 in Prague, † January 4, 1924 in Vienna ) was an Austrian pianist, composer and music educator.

Life

Grünfeld was the son of a leather merchant. He received his first music lessons at the age of four.

Alfred Grünfeld studied with Josef Krejčí at the Prague Conservatory and at Theodor Kullak and JT Hoyer at the New Academy of Music in Berlin. In 1873 he went to Vienna, where he obtained the title of " chamber virtuoso " and was a professor at Tokyo's New Vienna Conservatory. He made ​​numerous concert tours throughout Europe and the United States. He is known primarily for the performance of his concert paraphrases of Strauss waltzes. Johann Strauss ( son ) dedicated to him his " Voices of Spring Waltz " Op. 410

His brother Heinrich Grünfeld (1855-1931) was also a noted composer and cellist. His niece Erna Grünfeld taught piano at the Prague Conservatory, with their students belonged Ivan Moravec.

He is buried in a grave of honor in Vienna's Central Cemetery (Group C 32, number 2). In 1925 (9th district ), the Alfred Grünfeld street named after him in Vienna Alsergrund.
